Murfreesboro, TN— Jackson Overbay of Hamblen County, Tennessee was awarded the inaugural Top TIER Stockman Award at the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) Youth Awards Banquet sponsored by Kubota Tractor Corporation, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The Top Tier Stockman Award was designed by the TCA Youth Committee to recognize an individual who embodies the true spirit of stockmanship in and out of the show ring. TCA youth members and supporters were given the chance to nominate Tennessee’s Top Tier participants whom they felt were Trustworthy, Inclusive, Eager, and Respectful. The top five participants with the most nominations were identified as finalists for the Stockman Award and then voted on by their peers.

“Being named the Top TIER Stockman is a huge honor,” said Overbay. “I appreciate people thinking that highly of me to nominate and vote for me for this award. This award reflects my dedication and hard work with my cattle. I am honored to be surrounded by the other award finalist also.”

As stated by his peers, Overbay takes pride in presenting his cattle at a high level, is quick to lend a hand to anyone in need, is hungry to learn more from mentors in the industry, and expresses humility each time he leaves the show ring—no matter what the outcome. Jackson is a freshman at Morristown East High School. He is the son of Tyler and Jennifer Overbay.

Tennessee’s Top Tier (TTT) sponsored by Merck Animal Health is a youth program of the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) and Tennessee Cattlemen’s Youth Association (TCYA) that exclusively recognizes and rewards TCYA members for their participation and placings through a series of sanctioned junior cattle shows.

TCA was founded in 1985 and has more than 5,100 members from across the state and the southeast. The organization works to provide the cattlemen of Tennessee with an organization through which they may function collectively to protect their interests and work toward the solution of cattle industry problems and to build the necessary goodwill that will bring both governmental esteem and recognition to the industry.
