New Program for Beef Cattle Leaders in Tennessee

Murfreesboro, TN— The Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) and the Tennessee Beef Industry Council (TBIC) are excited to launch the Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Program (YCLP). TCA and TBIC recognize the need to cultivate future leaders of Tennessee’s beef cattle industry. YCLP aims to do just that by identifying the state’s top young cattlemen and women and developing them into future leaders.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Tennessee Beef Industry Council to launch a new leadership and educational program for young cattle producers in Tennessee,” said Melinda Hart, TCA Director of Youth Programs and Outreach. “As part of our commitment to Tennessee’s cattle producers, we hope this program will equip participants with the necessary resources to improve their cattle operations and leadership abilities.”

YCLP is geared towards Tennessee’s young cattle producers between the ages of 25 and 40. The year-long program will include six sessions dispersed across Tennessee. YCLP will give participants a first-hand look at Tennessee’s beef cattle industry from pasture to plate and provide them with networking and leadership opportunities.

By developing leadership skills, broadening participants’ knowledge of the cattle industry, and creating a network of like-minded cattle producers, YCLP participants will be better equipped to serve the state’s beef cattle organizations by assisting with beef promotion, supporting cattle industry issues, and serving in local, state, and national leadership roles.

"Our goal with this program is to aid producers in expanding their industry network, improving their leadership skills, and cultivating their storytelling abilities," said Emily Haskew, TBIC Director of Marketing & Communications. "We see a need within the beef industry for cattle producers to share their story in a way that resonates with consumers. We hope that by participating in this program, young cattle producers will have the confidence to share their Beef Story."

Those interested in participating should submit the application form by October 31, 2024. Applicants should be actively involved in the cattle industry and possess the desire to expand their cattle industry knowledge, leadership skills, and, ultimately, the desire to advance their involvement in the industry. Applications and more information can be found on the TCA and TBIC websites.

TCA and TBIC are affiliate states of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA). Several other affiliate states have similar programs that have generated local, state, and national cattle industry leaders.

TCA was founded in 1985 with more than 6,500 members from across the state and the southeast. The organization works to provide the cattlemen of Tennessee with an organization through which they may function collectively to protect their interests and work toward the solution of cattle industry problems and build the necessary goodwill that will bring both governmental esteem and recognition to the industry.
